As we count down to Civic Season 2024, we highlight how organizations across the U.S. are joining in this new national celebration.

The Filson Historical Society, founded in 1884, is a privately supported historical society located in Louisville, Kentucky. This mission is to collect, preserve, and share the stories of Kentucky and Ohio Valley history and culture. Liberty Hall a historic house museum in Frankfort, Kentucky whose mission is to serve the public by preserving collections and sharing stories that illustrate urban life in early Kentucky through the contributions of Senator John Brown and his family.

2024 Civic Season Featured Event: History on Tap Local History Trivia Night

As the kickoff to Civic Season 2023, Filson Historical Society partnered with Liberty Hall Historic Site to host a history trivia night at a local pizzeria. This event was a great way for regional Made By Us partner organizations to team up and create new community connections as well. By hosting the event offsite at a local business, with a casual, low-stakes vibe, the event created a unique opportunity to interact with potentially new audiences. Filson and Liberty Hall found the event a light lift with a low cost — an ideal combination.

Joining in Civic Season

Both the Filson and Liberty Hall have been active Made By Us partner organizations. Filson has participated in Civic Season in 2022 and 2023. In 2022, participation was limited to digital engagement (social media, e-newsletters, and adding resources to the Civic Season website). This engagement is a powerful and simple way to get your organization involved.

However, in 2023, Filson Historical Society and Liberty Hall Historic Site were able to utilize the support and resources of Made By Us and partner organizations participating in Civic Season to host an in-person event. According to staff, being part of Civic Season has been a critical path to connecting the Filson with regional partners — and increasing outreach to a more diverse audience!
